How can we turn the massive social capital that our 200 million unemployed youth aged 18-24 across Africa represent into financial capital?

The Young Africa FOUNDATION NPC has been set up to achieve this, through three innovative approaches designed by the Founder of the Young Africa VISION, South African author, businesswoman and social entrepreneur Reinhild Niebuhr.

Firstly, the Young Africa FOUNDATION is a shareholder in different businesses, and thereby receives an income from dividends from these businesses, when they make a profit. Currently, the Young Africa FOUNDATION owns 51% shares in three businesses founded by the Founder of the Young Africa VISION, Reinhild Niebuhr, but any business which is interested in a trustworthy Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment Partner in South Africa, or who wishes to support the Young Africa VISION, is welcome to offer shares to the Young Africa FOUNDATION NPC.

Secondly, when unemployed youth register as students of the ACADEMY For A Young Africa, they are given an opportunity to take part in an internship at a local non-profit organisation in exchange for “Young Africa REWARDS” (YARs) – an innovative point-based digital currency. The Young Africa FOUNDATION raises funds from local and international grantmakers to provide a financial value to these YARs – which in turn can then be used to pay for services and products at participating local retailers and service providers. In this way, every dollar of grant funding achieves a TRIPLE IMPACT: you’re helping the unemployed youth, you’re building capacity within the host non-profit organisation AND you’re stimulating the local economy in the village or town where the youth is living! The Young Africa FOUNDATION is the GUARDIAN of the Young Africa REWARDS currency system.

Thirdly, when students of the ACADEMY For A Young Africa complete their assignments, they often gather data from their hometown or village, as part of market research, that may be very useful for strategic planning by both the public and the private sector. The Young Africa FOUNDATION is the GUARDIAN of the BIG DATA collected by these students, and any profit made from providing access to this data on a subscription basis by interested parties, flows directly into funding the programmes of the Young Africa FOUNDATION.

HOW DOES THE Young Africa FOUNDATION NPC REMAIN TRANSPARENT AND ACCOUNTABLE TO ITS GRANTMAKERS?

The Young Africa FOUNDATION NPC uses state-of-the-art financial management software to keep track of every single cent received as a donation, or as income, and can pinpoint in real-time how any funds received have been deployed. Donors receive access to this system to view the flow of funds in real-time.
